Winona-Ryder
Winona Ryder professional Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Her name was chosen by her parents in honor of the town in which she was raised. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder is a Jew. Ryder believes that her father was from an ethnically Jewish background. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. When Ryder was just seven years old, her family moved in Mendocino County California. They were in a home that had no electricity. Ryder was a voracious read and would spend her days reading books as she had no TV. Ryder, then 12, enrolled at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. At the age of 15, Ryder had a chance to play in Lucas which was her debut major film. Ryder faced bullying in high school. Ryder had hoped that her profession as a performer would be a positive change. Unfortunately, that did not take place. It was a dream she pursued. Her first big break came in 1988 with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder was a star in several films. In 1993 she was nominated two times for Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part in The Age of Innocence.
